WHMIS stands for the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System. It is a national hazardous materials classification system designed to provide workplace standards for the control, handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous products.
This course meets the requirements set out in Sections 5.5 – 5.7 of British Columbia’s OHS Regulation regarding generic WHMIS worker training requirements. Employers are responsible for supplementing this training with occupation-specific hazard information.
Hazardous materials may cause serious health problems in workers or fires or explosions in the workplace. WHMIS provides information on hazardous products so workers know what they are dealing with, how to minimize exposure, and how to respond in the event of an accidental exposure.
